Gainesville Theatre Alliance Presents James and the Giant Peach Oct. 2–4

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (September 15, 2026) — Gainesville Theatre Alliance will open its 2026-27 Dream Boldly season with James and the Giant Peach Oct. 2-4 at Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium.

With words and music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Timothy Allen McDonald, the musical is based on the book by Roald Dahl. A young boy escapes his cruel aunts inside a giant peach, embarking on a magical adventure with insect friends in this imaginative musical based on the Roald Dahl classic.

The production is directed by Cory Phelps, assistant professor of theatre at Brenau University. Phelps said the story’s themes of friendship and kindness are especially meaningful as James finds support through the unexpected relationships he forms along his journey.

“At times, and just like James, we too will hit rock bottom, and we might need some help finding flight again,” Phelps said. “Even the smallest act of kindness can send someone soaring.”

The creative team includes Dale Grogan as musical director, Courtney Chitwood Ondre as choreographer, Emma Laine Hoffbauer as scenic designer, Shelby Ashley as lighting designer, Zack Bennett as sound and projections designer, and Pamela Workman as costume designer.

Public performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2; 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Oct. 3; and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4.

A free Ice Cream Social catered by Puzzle Piece Pastries will follow the Oct.4 matinee and is included with admission.
