Gainesville Theatre Alliance Dreams Boldly for 2026-27
GAINESVILLE, Ga. (August 11, 2026) — Gainesville Theatre Alliance invites audiences to Dream Boldly with its 2026-27 season, a year of wonder, adventure, romance, and imagination.
The new season features four productions inspired by beloved literary works, including James and the Giant Peach, The Heart of Robin Hood, Pride & Prejudice, and Alice by Heart. Tickets go on sale to the public August 17.
“I’m elated that such classic works are inspiring the stories we’re telling this year,” said Zechariah Pierce, GTA Artistic Director and Head of Theatre at University of North Georgia. “Each production offers a poetically beautiful new take that breathes new life into characters we know and love."
GTA’s 2026-27 season begins with James and the Giant Peach, running October 2-4, 2026, at Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium. Featuring words and music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, book by Timothy Allen McDonald, and based on the book by Roald Dahl, the musical follows a lonely boy who escapes into a magical adventure aboard an enormous peach.
The season continues with The Heart of Robin Hood by David Farr, running November 6-14, 2026, at UNG-Gainesville’s Ed Cabell Theatre. This bold, theatrical retelling follows Marian as she challenges Robin to become the leader his people desperately need.
In February, GTA brings Jane Austen’s beloved classic to the stage with Pride & Prejudice, adapted by Melissa Leilani Larson from the novel by Jane Austen. Running February 12-20, 2027, at Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre, the production captures the wit, romance, and rivalry of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
The season concludes with Alice by Heart, running April 9-17, 2027, at UNG-Gainesville’s Ed Cabell Theatre. With book by Steven Sater and Jessie Nelson, music by Duncan Sheik, and lyrics by Steven Sater, the musical follows a young woman in a London tube station during the Blitz as she escapes into the surreal world of Wonderland.
