Nothing Goes Right in Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s The Play That Goes Wrong

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (February 3, 2026) — Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA) will present The Play That Goes Wrong Feb. 13-21 at Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre.

The international hit comedy follows the Cornley Drama Society, a determined amateur theatre company attempting to stage a 1920s murder mystery. From missed cues and malfunctioning props to collapsing scenery and mounting mishaps, the production steadily unravels as the cast struggles to keep the show on track, delivering fast-paced physical comedy and escalating chaos throughout the performance.

Director Zechariah Pierce said the appeal of the play was immediate. “I’m a sucker for a good comedy, but I’ve never come across anything quite like this show,” Pierce said. “It’s typically difficult to read plays and get a sense of the hilarity, but this one left all of us rolling on the floor.”

Pierce noted that while the production presents significant technical challenges, the opportunity to bring the play to the stage outweighed any hesitation.

“It’s probably one of the more difficult technical challenges we’ve undertaken, but the sheer desire to mount the madness we  had just read overcame our fear of failing to do so,” he said. “I’ve found that our community needs more and more reason to laugh these days, and I want desperately for our audience to experience the same joys we have had putting the show together.”

The creative team features scenic design by Larry Cook, costume design by Emmie Tuttle, lighting design by Shelby Ashley, and sound design by Zack Bennett.

An Opening Night Reception on Friday, February 13 will be catered by Nothing Bundt Cakes.

The Play That Goes Wrong is recommended for audiences all ages.
