Gainesville Theatre Alliance announces 2025-26 season of music, mischief, and magic

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (August 12, 2025) Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA) has unveiled its 2025-26 season, a vibrant lineup of comedy, musical theatre, and family-friendly fun staged across its two partner campuses. Kicking off in October and concluding in April, the season’s four productions promise a playful mix of heart, humor, and spectacle. Tickets go on sale to the public beginning August 15 at GainesvilleTheatreAlliance.org.

The season opens with Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook, October 3-5, 2025, at Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium. In this heartwarming story based on Barbara Park’s best-selling book, Junie B. is on the hunt for her missing furry mittens, only to stumble upon a dazzling pen that isn’t hers. Between playground adventures, first crushes, and lessons in honesty, Junie B.’s world bursts to life in a way that will delight audiences of all ages. Fun for the whole family! This show is sponsored by the Melvin Douglas & Victoria Kay Ivester Foundation, Inc.

November 7-15, 2025, GTA brings the musical Sister Act to Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre. When nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a crime, she goes into hiding in a convent. Posing as a nun, she transforms the quiet choir into a joyful, roof-raising sensation. With its soaring gospel-inspired score and infectious spirit, this feel-good musical celebrates friendship, faith, and the power of finding your own voice. Recommended for ages 13+ for mild language, suggestive humor, and adult themes. This show is sponsored by Jacobs Media and WDUN.

The laughter continues after the new year with the Olivier Award-winning farce The Play That Goes Wrong, running February 13-21 at Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre. It’s opening night for the Cornley Drama Society, and every possible disaster (from collapsing sets to misplaced lines) unfolds before the audience’s eyes. A gleeful homage to theatrical mayhem, this fast-paced comedy proves that sometimes the biggest mishaps bring the biggest laughs. Fun for the whole family!

The season concludes April 10-18 with Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods at the University of North Georgia-Gainesville’s Ed Cabell Theatre. This beloved musical intertwines the paths of Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood, and a cursed baker and his wife, exploring what happens after “happily ever after.” With a lush score and a story both playful and poignant, Into the Woods invites audiences to reflect on the choices we make and the consequences that follow. Recommended for ages 10+ for mature themes. This show is sponsored by the Gainesville Times.

“From start to finish, the stories use humor and levity to raise our spirits and bring a dose of familiarity that unites us as a community,” said GTA Artistic Director Zechariah Pierce. “Our productions have always been a beacon of excellence in our region and it’s thanks to the hard work of our students, faculty, and staff who carry us onward every year. I’m so proud of the work they do and honored to lead us into another year of growth and formation.”

Special events for the season include GTA’s annual Ice Cream Social, catered by Puzzle Piece Pastries, following the October 5 matinee of Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook. Opening Night Receptions will follow the first Friday performance of each of the other productions, with Sister Act catered by Tupelo Honey and The Play That Goes Wrong catered by Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Tickets for all performances go on sale August 15 and patrons are encouraged to take advantage of GTA’s season packages, which offer up to 20% off based on the number of shows purchased on the season. Tickets and season packages can be purchased online at GainesvilleTheatreAlliance.org or by contacting the box office at 678-717-3624.
